Velvet magazine is written for a mainly lesbian audience, although due to its editorial content it is enjoyed by a wide variety of people, including those who are not lesbians. It contains on the edge photography of lesbians in action, women posing by themselves in erotic, sexually arousing poses, as well as women together with other women. The photographs are of high quality, always well shot and well posed. Although it does contain a lot of sexual content, it does attempt to set itself apart from other adult lesbian publications by featuring a solid base of editorial content and sophisticated reading material. Its goal is to bring information to lesbians who are maybe not as active on the lesbian scene. Velvet magazine is bold in its presentation, both in regards to its pictorials and its articles. It defies many of the industry’s normal standards when it comes to adult lesbian reading material.
Some of the topics covered include issues that relate specifically to the lesbian community and the issues that it is facing as a whole. There are also book and film reviews, and articles on parenting and health issues. Poetry and short fiction stories round out the content of Velvet magazine.
