Spider magazine is written for kids who enjoy reading. It tries to secure an audience between the ages of 6 and 9, although young ones outside of this age bracket tend to enjoy the stories as well. Each issue is mainly reading, and the focus is to encourage kids to develop a love of reading. This is done through stories, poems, and articles. There is one pull out game page in each issue. Spider magazine is packed full of reading material for young ones to enjoy on their own, or with a family member. Each issue follows a fairly standard pattern. The issue starts with a picture of Spider and her other bug friends playfully posed. These same creatures decorate the bottom of each page throughout the issue. One recurring feature in this magazine is The Dangerfield Twins. The twins work together in each story to solve problems together with their friends. The stories about them are about six pages long, well illustrated, and printed in a large font. Other stories may follow a particular theme, such as animals, or other things of interest to children. Submissions from readers to Spider magazine are published in each issue, including poetry and artwork. Kids are invited to send in submissions on a particular topic. |
