Ranger Rick magazine takes different aspects of nature and presents it in a fun, creative way for children to enjoy. It is geared for children ages six to twelve. It covers many wonders of nature. Each monthly issue features a photo of one animal on the cover. The articles on this animal are found under the “Dear Ranger Rick” and “Ranger Rick’s Adventure” sections. It is packed with amazing photos and interesting facts. The aim of the magazine is to help deepen children’s appreciation for nature, while helping them sharpen their reading skills. In the “Dear Ranger Rick” section children submit questions and have them answered or sometimes other submissions, such as poetry are featured.

“Ranger Rick’s Adventure” is done by means of a cartoon. There are many facts presented throughout the cartoon, as well as additional facts at the end. Ranger Rick magazine also takes an interactive approach to learning about nature. Each issue regularly features a pull-out game section. This section includes fill in the blanks, a crossword puzzle, and other different games. All the games in this part of the magazine are designed to teach the children something. Ranger Rick makes learning about nature fun, pleasing children and parents alike.
