Harper’s magazine is a meaty, thought provoking magazine for serious readers. It does not pretend to be anything that it isn’t, and provides similar information to other current political and cultural information, but doesn’t use the same dry, witty humor or cartoons. It is, rather, a magazine for the readers, printed with the goal of providing avid readers with plenty of material to gnaw on. Although in the past the magazine has shown a bit of a liberal slant, it is generally fairly unbiased, and critical across the board of all things making the headlines in regards to politics, policy, culture, finance and the arts. The articles are full of substance, and enjoyed by those who want to know every detail about the situation, leaving no rock unturned. For the visual eye, there are some illustrations provided, often photographs, and these do serve to enhance the articles, although they are not the main focus. In addition to the lengthy feature articles that are often controversial in nature, Harper’s magazine also provides short fiction stories, and essays. From time to time there are also a few book reviews printed. Harper’s magazine is a great place to find well written articles that dig deep into the events happening around the world, clearly exposing the issues at hand. |
